Do you believe the STEM community brings a valuable perspective to challenges faced by cities, counties, and states? Engineers & Scientists Acting Locally seeks to inspire, encourage, and empower people in STEM to be active civic participants. We are a dedicated group of volunteers working to help our fellow members of the STEM community more effectively engage with their local communities and governments. And we would be thrilled to have you join our ranks. ESAL is seeking 1-2 volunteers to join ESAL’s Events team. In the past year, our team has hosted virtual panel discussions on a wide range of topics. These events provide engineers and scientists with practical information about STEM-related issues and opportunities to have an impact through local engagement. By joining our team, new volunteers will help us to expand the reach of our virtual events and have creative input into the overall direction and themes of our virtual programming. As an ESAL Virtual Event Coordinator you will: Take the lead in planning and organizing 1-2 events per year, with support from the events team Provide additional support and insight to other events as able and interested Help identify, contact, and communicate with panelists for virtual discussions Communicate with partner organizations who are co-hosting events Coordinate with ESAL’s Social Media Team, Web Team, and Content Team to ensure smooth logistics for virtual events Contribute about 5-10 hours per event of your time to do the above Attend bimonthly Events Team meetings Make at least a 6 month commitment to volunteering with ESAL In return, by volunteering with ESAL you will gain the opportunity to: Suggest and organize, with ESAL support, virtual events on topics of interest to you Network with engineers and scientists across the country who are passionate about improving their communities Demonstrate a concrete commitment to science policy and community engagement Work with ESAL leadership -- a dedicated team of engineers and scientists with deep experience in public policy Influence and shape a growing, high-profile science policy and engagement organization If you are interested in helping us change how engineers and scientists think about policy engagement, please contact us with a paragraph describing your interest and a link to a bio or an attached resume at volunteer@esal.us.
