Job Description The Enrollment Counselor is part of the team responsible for the recruitment of first-year students. He/she will represent the University at off-campus events and assist in the coordination of on-campus events related to recruitment. He/she will make outreach to prospective first-year students for the purposes of inducing their enrollment at VWU, and will participate in the review of admission applications and make admission decisions. He/she will work with financial aid, the athletic department, and other offices on campus to achieve the enrollment and net revenue targets established by the Cabinet.
Duties and responsibilities - Represent the University at off-campus recruitment events. Establish relationships with high school personnel and community leaders. Position requires occasional overnight travel, and evening and weekend hours.
- Make outreach to prospective students via telephone, text messaging, and email in order to generate interest in the University. Interview prospective students and advise them about admission criteria, goals, programs, policies, and assist them with the application process.
- Participate in Office of Enrollment Services initiated on-campus recruitment activities.
- Track applicant progress in Reach in order to facilitate movement through the enrollment funnel. Maintain accurate files for applicants and admitted students.
- Evaluate applications and make admission decisions, and serve on admission committee as needed.
- Take the initiative to make incoming first-year students feel welcome, and to be a source of visible support when possible. Assist with the organization and presentation of orientation programs for new students as needed.
- Remain well informed about University programs and requirements.
- Assist with new and current projects in the Office of Enrollment Services. Assist other counselors (freshman and transfer) with recruitment activity as needed.
- Work with financial aid, athletics department, and all campus departments to aid in enrollment and growth of the University.
- Assist Support Staff when specific support processing help and/or expertise is needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree required Experience: Experience in college recruitment, or related experience in business, marketing, or any field which requires relationship building and/or sales.
Skills : Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, and listening skills, and ability to relate to freshman students from diverse environments. Ability to communicate benefits of the University persuasively to prospective students, in order to meet enrollment targets. Experience in public speaking, and comfortable in new situations. Ability to communicate with high school and community leaders on a professional level. High level of proficiency in database management. Ability to work collaboratively, and independently with minimum supervision.
